Bangur Institute of Neurosciences,〔Name according to (IPGMER website )〕 also known as the Bangur Institute of Neurology and abbreviated BIN, is a government-run apex superspeciality institute/hospital located at 52/1A, Sambhu Nath Pandit Street, Bhawanipur, Kolkata, West Bengal. The institute is adjacent and functionally attached to IPGMER and SSKM Hospital. The institute is affiliated to The West Bengal University of Health Science.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.eduhelp.in/institute/College/8947-Bangur%20Institute%20of%20Neurology )
This is a major government-sponsored neurological institute and a premier training center in the field of neurosciences of West Bengal, and patients are regularly referred here from various hospitals of west bengal and adjoining states. This hospital's research activities include studies into strokes, cognitive neuroscience, movement disorders, epilepsy, neuromuscular (myasthenia), developmental disorders of the brain, Wilson's disease, electrophysiology, botulinium toxin, and neurogenetics.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.ipgmer.gov.in/departments/Neurology.pdf )
The new MRI unit has been installed in 2013 in the institute apart from the 3 Tesla machine already present in IPGMER & SSKM Hospital. It is a state of art 3 Tesla system and versed with the latest technology and open 24x7 for the patients. It is one among only few 3 Tesla machines in the city.

The institute also runs digital subtraction angiography which can detect various neurological disorders and easily carry out investigation into endo-vascular management of cerebral stroke and other disorders of brain like aneurysm and vascular malformations. This angiography is starkly different from angiography of other organs such as the heart or limbs as it is highly accurate and detects abnormalities in cerebral blood vessels in a real-time study which does not involve any reconstruction as in MR angio or CT angio.

In the hospital there is an inadequacy in the number of beds and it has been a constant complaint by the patients that the critical patients from this hospital are refused to be admitted.
Though, now there are few emergency beds earmarked for the institute in the IPGMER & SSKM hospital and critical patients are admitted through 24 hour emergency run by the institute, however the lack of adequate beds remain a major concern.

In May 2011, Shyamapada Ghorai, then director of BIN was suspended with charges of misconduct, insubordination and non-co-operation. This was one of the first administrative actions taken by Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. On 26 May 2011, Banerjee visited the hospital unannounced, asked few questions to Ghorai and felt the given answers were not satisfactory and Ghorai was suspended in the same evening.〔
Even after the surprise visit of the Chief Minister, the situation did not improve. According to a report published ''The Telegraph (Calcutta)'' on June 2012, "A year and a fortnight after chief minister Mamata Banerjee suspended Shyamapada Ghorai from the post of Bangur Institute of Neuroscience (BIN) director – one of her first administrative actions since assuming office – little has changed at the state-run hospital. Worse, advanced and critical surgeries, once performed by Ghorai, are now hardly conducted."〔
